Plants and Global Warming

Is there global warming?  And if so, is it man-made?  Is it natural?  Whose fault is it?

There is too much arguing and far too much politics in this debate.  One thing I know for sure is that plants believe there is global warming, also known as "climate change."  If you want proof, click on one of the links below to the National Arbor Day Foundation's cold hardiness map to see how the zones have changed over the past 15 years or so.  In our area, we can now grow plants that used to freeze out.

What can you do this growing season to help reduce global warming?

  • Plant native plants that can take warmer temperatures and less water
  • Plant a tree - Trees use carbon dioxide and make clean air for us to breathe
  • Buy plants and produce locally - Buying local products reduces the amount of energy required to ship these products to you
  • Buy organic foods - The chemical used in modern agriculture pollute the water supply and require energy from fossil fuels to produce
  • Reduce garbage by recycling and composting
  • Use a push mower to cut your lawn - Use your muscles and get exercise instead of using fossil fuels and releasing additional pollution into the air
