Organic Weed Control

Weeds will always be present, especially anywhere we really don't want them, it's inevitable.  They are nature's protective ground cover and can be an indicator of the soil's condition.  Weeds are an indicator of the soil's condition.  Weeds are an indicator of poor nutrient content in the soil.

Weeds are defined as any plant that grows where it is not wanted.  Weeds spready in various ways.  Some reproduct each year, others reproduce by stems, and some have seeds that can lay dormant for up to two years.  Identifying the weed plant and knowing its preferred environment will help you determine the most effective method of weed control.

Natural ways to achieve a green lawn with fewer weeds:

- Correct poor nutrient content in soil (soil test recommended)

- Correct conditions that promote weed growth
- Over-seed bare spots
- Mow higher (3" or more) so weeds can't grow
- Corn Gluten (pre-germination weed control)
- Hand pull (a weed wrench  makes this easy)
- Horticultrual Vinegar spray
- Organics herbicide (Nature's Avenger or BurnOut)
